Quizmatik Privacy Policy
Effective date:
Published at: https://yasinalev.com/en/quizmatik/privacy/
Quizmatik is an app teachers use to read and grade bubble answer sheets with the phone camera. This policy explains which data the app keeps and where, when and where it sends data, and what your rights are.
In short
- Your data stays on your phone. Quizmatik has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no crash-reporting tool.
- Scanning happens on the phone. Camera images are never sent anywhere.
- The app sends data over the internet only after you connect to a class website and tap Send to site. What is sent: class names, student numbers and names, the exam and its answer key, topics and verified results. Student e-mail addresses and photos of the sheets are never sent.
- If Android backup is on for your phone, the database and the scan photos can also be part of the Android backup in your Google account. The app key, the device ID and the Pro record are not.
- Google Play handles the Pro purchase. The app keeps no payment data.
Who is responsible?
- Data on the phone. You enter your students' information into the app, and it stays only on your phone. The developer cannot access it. You (and your school's rules) decide what this data is used for and how, so you are responsible for it.
- Data sent to quiz.yasinalev.com. quiz.yasinalev.com is a class website run by the app's developer, Yasin Alev. For data you send to this site, Yasin Alev is the data controller under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK).
- Another site. If you enter another site address in the app, the app sends only to that address. The operator of that site is responsible for the data there.
- Contact: merhaba@yasinalev.com
Data kept on the phone
Quizmatik keeps the following in the app's database on your phone:
- Classes (name, section, academic year)
- Students: student number, full name and, if you add it, an e-mail address
- Exams: title, date, number of questions, options, scoring, exam groups
- Answer keys and the topics you assign to questions
- Results: each student's answers as read from the sheet, score, group, and review and verification state
This data leaves the phone only when you send it (see “Android backup” and “Sending to a class website” below).
Camera and scan photos
- The camera is used only to scan answer sheets and the answer-key sheet. Camera images are analysed on the phone and never sent anywhere.
- A photo of every scanned sheet is kept in the app's own folder on the phone (
QuizmatikScans) so you can look at it when you review the sheet. - When you delete a result, an exam or a class, its photos are deleted from the phone too (some of them the next time the app starts).
Files you create
You create the following files and decide where they are saved and who receives them. They can contain student names, numbers and results.
- CSV: saved to the
Quizmatikfolder in the phone's Downloads, or shared. - Answer sheet (PDF and PNG), PDF report, results shared as text and
.exmexam packages: sent through Android's share sheet to the app you choose. - Backup file: created under More → Backup and restore and saved where you choose. You can choose to include the scan photos. The backup file is not encrypted; keep it somewhere you trust.
When you share a file with another app (e-mail, Drive, a messaging app), that app's rules apply.
Android backup
Android's own backup is on for Quizmatik:
- If Google backup is on for your phone, Android can back up the app's database and scan photos to your Google account.
- When you move to a new phone, device-to-device transfer also carries the database and the scan photos.
Android and Google perform this backup according to your phone's backup settings and Google's terms; the developer cannot access these backups. Android limits the size of an app's cloud backup; once there are many scan photos, this backup may not be made. The app's own backup file is the reliable way to keep your data safe. You can turn Android backup off in the phone's settings.
The following never go into the Android backup or a device transfer; they stay on this phone only:
- the class website's app key,
- the device ID and device name,
- the phone's record of the Pro purchase.
So on a new phone restored from a backup, you connect to the site again and turn Pro back on with Restore purchase.
Sending to a class website (optional)
Quizmatik can send verified results to a class website where students see their own results. This feature is optional; if you do not use it, the app sends no data.
When is data sent?
- First you connect: you enter the site address (the default is
https://quiz.yasinalev.com) and paste an app key you created on the site. While connecting, the app asks the site whether the key works. - After that, the app sends only when you tap Send to site. Without an internet connection, the send waits and happens in the background once the phone is online.
- You can remove an exam from the site with Remove from site. If you delete an exam or a class in the app that is on the site, the app removes it from the site too.
What is sent?
- Class names (with section and academic year)
- Student numbers and names
- The exam: title, date, number of questions, scoring, answer key, topics, exam groups
- Results that are verified and linked to a student: the answer to every question, the numbers of correct, wrong and blank answers, the score and the student's group
- The app's version
- A random device ID and a device name (below)
What is never sent?
- Student e-mail addresses
- Scan photos and camera images
- Results that are waiting for review or not linked to a student
Device ID and device name. When the app first connects to a site, it creates a random ID (a UUID) for this installation. It is not derived from the phone's hardware and identifies this installation of the app, not a person. The site uses it to warn you when the same exam is sent from two different phones. The device name is the phone's model name by default; you can change it on the site connection screen. Reinstalling the app or moving to a new phone creates a new ID.
How is it protected?
- Data is sent only over HTTPS, an encrypted connection.
- The app key is stored on the phone encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore that cannot be exported. Once saved, only its first characters are shown. The app key is sent only to the site you connected, to prove that the phone may send; it is never part of the Android backup, a device transfer or the app's backup file.
- You can revoke the app key on the site at any time; a revoked key can no longer send.
Who sees what on the site? On quiz.yasinalev.com, students sign in with their student number and a PIN and see only their own results and group figures such as the class average. No student is shown another student's name or score. You see the results with your teacher account on the site.
Hosting and transfer abroad: The data of quiz.yasinalev.com is hosted on the app developer Yasin Alev's own virtual server (VPS). The server is provided by netcup GmbH in Germany. Because Germany is outside Türkiye, the data you send to the site is transferred abroad within the meaning of KVKK article 9.
Legal basis (KVKK article 5): Providing the class website service to the teacher (article 5/2-c) and the controller's legitimate interest (article 5/2-f).
Pro purchase
Quizmatik Pro is a one-time purchase. The purchase and the payment are handled entirely by Google Play, under Google's terms. The app neither sees nor stores your payment details; it keeps only a record on the phone of whether Pro is on, so that Pro works without an internet connection. This record is not part of the Android backup. A Google Play purchase is valid only on Android.
What we do not do
- No accounts; there is no sign-in to the app.
- No ads.
- No analytics, usage statistics or tracking tools.
- No crash-reporting tool.
- We do not sell your data or share it with anyone for advertising.
The app opens some links (your site's pages, a licence text) in the phone's browser; there the browser's and the opened site's rules apply.
Students and children
Quizmatik is for teachers. Students do not use the app; they only fill in the paper sheet. Some students may be minors; their information is entered by the teacher. Follow your school's rules when you enter students' information and send it to a site.
How long data is kept
- On the phone: until you delete it or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the app's data and scan photos from the phone. CSV files saved to Downloads and backup files you created stay until you delete them.
- In the Android backup: according to Google's backup rules.
- On quiz.yasinalev.com: until you remove the exam from the site or delete it in the app. Removing an exam from the site leaves its classes and student lists on the site; deleting a class in the app also deletes the class, its students and their results from the site. A student you delete in the app is marked on the site as having left the class with the class's next send; to have their record removed from the site completely, delete the class or write to us.
Your rights under KVKK
Anyone whose data is on quiz.yasinalev.com (teachers and students) may apply to the data controller under KVKK article 11 to:
- learn whether their personal data is processed,
- request information about it if it is,
- learn the purpose of the processing and whether the data is used for that purpose,
- know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad to whom it is transferred,
- request its correction if it is incomplete or wrong,
- request its deletion or destruction under the conditions of KVKK article 7,
- request that third parties to whom the data was transferred are told about a correction, deletion or destruction,
- object to a result against them that arises solely from analysis by automated systems,
- claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
Send your application in writing to merhaba@yasinalev.com. Applications are answered within 30 days at the latest and, as a rule, free of charge (KVKK article 13). If you are not satisfied with the answer, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu, KVKK article 14).
Students can also ask their teacher to correct their information or remove it from the site. Data kept on the phone exists only on the teacher's phone, so requests about it go to the teacher.
Changes
When we change this policy, we publish the new text at the same address with a new effective date. If the data the app sends changes, we update this policy before the version that brings the change is released.
